What Will Matter – Michael Josephson

My beautiful baby girl
My beautiful baby girl

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.
It won’t matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.

It won’t matter whether you where beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built;
Not what you got, but how you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.

What will matter are not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

I am a sixty plenty wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. I started blogging as a coping mechanism during my beautiful daughter's final journey. Vic was desperately ill for 10 years after a botched back operation. Vic's Journey ended on 18 January 2013 at 10:35. She was the most courageous person in the world and has inspired thousands of people all over the world. Vic's two boys are monuments of her existence. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister and friend. I will miss you today, tomorrow and forever my Angle Child. https://tersiaburger.wordpress.com

    1. Unfortunately Vic is too tired at the moment to do much. She has 100’s of videos of her and the boys of the years and she has written final letters. She is always writing little notes and leaving it for us in the most unexpected places. I have no doubt that there will be a pile of notes to be found…

      1. Thank you Tersia!! You are so generous to allow me this gift. I am going to post it tomorrow then instead of my Seven Word Sunday Post
. I get a lot of traffic on Sundays.
I would want people to learn these words and these sentiments about life in Vic’s name and Honor. So I will re-post rather than re-blog (with full credits to you both ) so I can add my sentiments and post in sticky format.
I will also link back to this post so you will know.

Thank you again my very special and dear friend. You have a special place in my heart that has always been reserved just for you, only I did not know it until I met you.

  2. My Dearest Tersia & Beautiful Vic: I have posted on my FulCircleMe blog my deepest feelings and adoration for you both. It might be wrong to use the word and expression of love for who I thought were strangers, but you neither are strangers. So let me send my love and gentle hugs to you both with this post link. You two rock my soul each time I think of you, and I think of you often throughout my days. ~
